Provision of Mobile Online Services ŠKODA Connect

By means of this document, we, as the controller of personal data – the company ŠKODA AUTO a.s., tř. Václava Klementa 869, Mladá Boleslav II, 293 10, Mladá Boleslav, Identification No.: 00177041, registered in the Commercial Register kept by the Municipal Court in Prague under Section B, File No. 332 (hereinafter referred to as “ŠKODA AUTO“) – provide information on the personal data processing and your rights related thereto.

The processing of personal data is carried out as part of the following activity: Provision of Mobile Online Services ŠKODA Connect

PROVISION OF MOBILE ONLINE SERVICES ŠKODA CONNECT

Purpose of the processing:
Provision of Mobile Online Services ŠKODA Connect

Description of the purpose of processing:
We use the personal data for the purposes of your registration in the ŠKODA Connect environment, activation of the services ordered, matching with your vehicle via PIN code and procurement of regular services of the ŠKODA Connect within Infotainment Online and Care Connect, for the activation of services requiring a special procurement (remote car unlock or putting additional heating on), as well as the extension and termination thereof.

Such usage of your personal data may include, for instance, the usage of data acquired via GPS, such as the current location of the vehicle, and its potential transfer to Google EarthTMTM or similar service provider. In order to allow you to use the Mobile Online Services ŠKODA Connect, we shall use your personal data to create a user account. Therefore, we need you to submit to us your email address, to which we shall send you a confirmation email, and password. We shall add further personal data to your account depending on to which applications you shall sign-in via the user account. If you visit the ŠKODA Connect Portal, we also process for this purpose your personal data collected via the portal in compliance with principles, which you may find here. In the interest of maximum security, the data are transferred in encrypted format. Below you can find a detailed explanation of ŠKODA Connect and processing of data in connection with the individual services. The services that the you can use in the vehicle depend on the equipment of the vehicle and the services contracted in the valid ŠKODA Connect services Contract.

I. Infotainment Online
Thanks to the Infotainment Online service Package, you are better informed on his/her journeys. You can search for points of interest in the vicinity, gets up-to-date traffic information directly via the Internet and much more.
Google Earth™
Using the Google Earth™ service, you can discover many new places, and thanks to the realistic visualisation of the surroundings you can experience a new form of navigation. For this purpose, the vehicle transmits the co-ordinates of the required map sections, type and IP address and the selected navigation system language to Google® so that the maps and photographs are transmitted to the vehicle in the correct format.
Online POI-Search (text/voice)
The “Online POI-Search (text/voice)” function enables you via Google® at each location to search for personal points of interest in a fully targeted manner – for that matter using voice commands. At the same time, the continuous update of data from the Internet ensures many surprising and useful discoveries for even greater entertainment on your journeys. To search for points of interest, the co-ordinates of the selection location and search radius, selected language and voice command file are transmitted from the vehicle to Google® and ŠKODA AUTO.
Petrol Stations
The “Petrol Stations” function provides you information about the fuel stations in the vicinity of the vehicle. The search results, besides the location, also contain fuel price data and opening hours. The search menu is opened either at your own request or upon the fuel level in the tank dropping below a certain limit. To search for fuel stations, current co-ordinates are transmitted to ŠKODA AUTO and from there to the ŠKODA AUTO authorised search service.
Parking Spaces
Using the “Parking Spaces” service, you search for suitable parking facilities in the vicinity of the current location of the vehicle. The application shows the total number and number of vacant parking spaces. Furthermore, the service informs about prices, opening times and distances. The appropriate parking facilities are displayed in the preview of the navigation system. To search for parking, current co-ordinates are transmitted to ŠKODA AUTO and from there to the ŠKODA AUTO authorised search service.
Online Traffic Information
Using the “Online Traffic Information” service, you always have up-to-date information about the actual traffic situation and he/she can thus, for instance, avoid traffic jams in time. The “Online Traffic Information” shows the actual traffic situation on the navigation system. This information is provided by the traffic service authorised by ŠKODA AUTO. For the purpose of updating the traffic information, the vehicle transmits its coordinates, direction of travel, speed, date and time and its temporary random identifier to this service.
Online Destination Import
Through the “Online Destination Import” service, before starting a journey you can import individual points of interest stored on ŠKODA Connect (Points of Interest – POIs) into the navigation system of the vehicle. These POIs are provided by ŠKODA AUTO for the purpose of demand from the vehicle. They remain stored until you delete them on the ŠKODA Connect Portal or in the ŠKODA Connect App. If you are searching for points of interest on the map on the ŠKODA Connect Portal or in the ŠKODA Connect App, a query is sent to the map service authorised by ŠKODA AUTO.
My Points of Interest
In “My Points of Interest” (hereinafter as “POIs”) you can store a list of favorite personal points of interest and import it into the navigation system of the vehicle. During import of the personal list of POIs on the ŠKODA Connect Portal, the data are transferred to the navigation system and shall be ready for use on demand.
Weather
The “Weather” service provides current weather information for the current location and destination. At the same time, the system takes the assumed arrival time into consideration. The weather forecast for the current vehicle location or navigation destination is provided by the meteorological service authorised by ŠKODA AUTO. In the query, the vehicle sends the co-ordinates of the required location together with the language settings and units of measure to ŠKODA AUTO. From there, the information is transferred to the meteorological service.
News
You can select a news station (Newsfeeds) and import it from the ŠKODA Connect Portal to the ŠKODA vehicle. On the ŠKODA Connect Portal you can visit the news portal and subsequently follow the news in the vehicle. When demanding news from the vehicle, the request is sent to the news provider(s) selected by you.
Online Tour Import
Using the “Online Tour Import” you can, prior to starting a journey, send the individual ready routes on the ŠKODA Connect Portal or in the ŠKODA Connect App to the vehicle’s navigation system. For the routes to be accepted, the navigation system must be online and it must contain the map data of the given destinations. You can store a maximum of 5 routes, which always contain 10 partial targets in the navigation system. If you want to store an additional route above this limit, he/she must delete the stored routes from the navigation system.
Online Map Update
“Online Map Update” allows you to update the maps in the navigation system via the Internet. The updates are offered according to the individual countries, respectively, regions. “Online map update” notifies you as soon as new map updates are available. You can then select the desired update from the list in “Online Map Update”.
II. Care Connect
Care Connect enables you to access the safety and service functions of the vehicle via the ŠKODA Connect Portal or the ŠKODA Connect App.
Vehicle Status
Using the “Vehicle Status” service, you can check whether the electric windows, doors, bonnet and boot lid are open or closed, whether the vehicle is locked or unlocked and whether the parking lights are on or off. You can request the current data on the condition of the vehicle via the ŠKODA Connect App as well as the ŠKODA Connect Portal. The “Vehicle Status” service only reads the actual information about the condition of the vehicle and displays it. It is not possible to switch the lights on or off, lock, respectively, unlock the vehicle or open and close the windows.
Driving Data
You can use the “Driving Data” service to display the average speed, duration of the journey, distance travelled and average fuel consumption without the need to get into the vehicle. At the end of the journey, the given data are sent to ŠKODA AUTO after locking the vehicle and they are available on demand via the ŠKODA Connect Portal and the ŠKODA Connect App.
Parking Position
“Parking Position” enables you to view the last known location of the vehicle. Using the ŠKODA Connect App, you can find his/her way to the location of the vehicle. When you take the key out of the ignition, the current parking position is ascertained on the basis of GPS coordinates and the vehicle sends the position automatically to ŠKODA AUTO where it is stored. The location can be retrieved using the ŠKODA Connect App and the ŠKODA Connect Portal. ŠKODA AUTO does not compile profiles of the movement of the vehicles or individual persons. If the vehicle is later, for instance, towed away or stolen without starting the vehicle or removal of the key from the ignition, it is not possible to ascertain the new location of the vehicle.
Vehicle Health Report
The "Vehicle Health Report" informs you about the current condition of the Vehicle. You can visualise current vehicle alerts and/or any service needs and administer them (e.g. printing or archiving). The Vehicle Health Report can be requested automatically by you (e.g. at regular time and/or kilometer intervals) or manually (via the ŠKODA Connect Portal or ŠKODA Connect App). The vehicle then transmits the current vehicle condition data to the ŠKODA Connect Portal, where the Vehicle Health Reports can be viewed. You are still obliged to act exclusively according to the warning and error messages in the vehicle.
Service Scheduling
“Service Scheduling” enables you to make a service appointment with a service partner via the ŠKODA Connect Portal expediently and comfortably. For this purpose, the vehicle reports the need for service (e.g. achieved service interval) to the ŠKODA AUTO data server. These data are automatically sent to a service partner selected previously by you. After this, the service partner may contact you via the communication channel of his/her choice (email or telephone) and agree on an appointment with you. You can deactivate this service, change the preferred communication channel or choose a different service partner, at any time via the ŠKODA Connect Portal or ŠKODA Connect App.
Breakdown Call
“Breakdown Call” via the 3-button module in the ceiling of the vehicle can be used to establish a voice connection with the Call Centre operator and report a vehicle breakdown. At the same time, the vehicle automatically sends the current location and vehicle data to the Call Centre. Due to the vehicle data sent, the Call Centre operator gets the necessary information for precise recommendation of what you should do, or if necessary, the operator calls the tow service.
Info Call
“Info Call” via the 3-button module in the ceiling of the vehicle can be used to establish a voice connection with the Call Centre operator who provides information and answers concerning ŠKODA offer and as well about ŠKODA Connect services as one of the ŠKODA product portfolio.
Automatic Accident Notification
“Automatic Accident Notification” detects that a traffic accident has occurred below the threshold for activation of the airbags and asks if you want to send a call in case of vehicle failure. If you send a call in the case of failure, the vehicle location data are sent to the Call Centre. Via the voice connection, the Call Centre operator subsequently agrees on further procedures with you and initiates the appropriate action. Upon request, you can get the vehicle towed to the nearest service partner.
Area Notification
Through the “Area Notification” service, you can get a message if the vehicle leaves or enters a defined area. For this purpose, you can define zones and times when the vehicle must not leave a certain zone or when it must not enter certain zones, on the ŠKODA Connect Portal or in the ŠKODA Connect App. If this function is active, upon crossing the boundary of the area, information is sent to the ŠKODA AUTO data server. As soon as the rule you have set is broken and the vehicle is located at the defined area or it leaves the defined location, according to the settings, you will receive a message in the Connect Application (Push Message) and/or via email. The driver of the vehicle can deactivate "Area Notification" at any time via the settings in the vehicle and thus prevent you from receiving an area notification. In this case no "Position notification" will be transmitted to ŠKODA AUTO data servers.
Speed Notification
Through the “Speed Notification” function, you can be notified at any time when the vehicle exceeds the set speed threshold. For this purpose, you can set the speed threshold on the ŠKODA Connect Portal or in the ŠKODA Connect App and decide whether he/she wants to be informed once upon the first exceeding of the speed threshold or several times upon recurrence of such exceeding of the speed threshold. If the “Speed Threshold Exceeding Notification” service is activated, a message is sent each time the speed threshold entered on the ŠKODA AUTO data server is exceeded. As soon as the vehicle exceeds the speed threshold, which you have set, you will receive a message on the ŠKODA Connect Portal, in the ŠKODA Connect App (Push Message) and/or by email.
Honk & Flash
Using the “Honk & Flash” service, you can remotely control the warning lights and horn of the vehicle through the ŠKODA Connect App if he/she is within the sight range (approximately 500 meters) from the vehicle. Using the “Honk & Flash” service, you can switch the warning lights and horn of the vehicle on and off as well as display the current blinking and hooting status. In order to ensure that you are within the close circuit from the vehicle, upon activation of the horn and warning lights via the “Honk & Flash” service, the position of your smartphone and position of the vehicle are compared.
Online Auxiliary Heater
"Online Auxiliary Heater" allows you to control the heating system via the ŠKODA Connect Portal or ŠKODA Connect App. For example, you can program departure times, so that the heating system automatically switches on and the vehicle is heated up to the desired time. With "Online Auxiliary Heater" can the heating system also be switched on or off at any time. Due to the safety reasons, you are obliged at first to set a personal identification number (S-PIN) which has to be entered before every access to the Online Auxiliary Heater system.
Online Anti-Theft Alarm
Through the “Online Anti-Theft Alarm” service, you can get information on the ŠKODA Connect Portal, in the ŠKODA Connect App (Push Message) and/or by email about the activation of the Anti-Theft Alarm. At the same time, you will receive information about the reason for the activation and the activation time so he/she can immediately take corresponding steps.

Legal basis of the processing:
We have to carry out the processing to be able to enter into the contract on provision of Mobile Online Services ŠKODA Connect with you, or to perform the contract you entered in. The provision of your personal data is a contractual requirement and if you fail to provide them, we might not be able to conclude a contract with you or it might not be possible for us to perform the contract already concluded. Without the processing of your personal data, as describer hereinabove, we would not be able to provide you with the Mobile Online Services ŠKODA Connect.

Categories of the personal data we process:
Trading history, localisation data, technical information on the product, contact data and identification data.

Processing and archiving period:
6 months after the cancellation of the user account.

Categories of data processors or recipients to whom we may provide the personal data:
Providers of Mobile Online Services ŠKODA Connect. Upon request, your personal data can be provided to public authorities, in particular to courts, the Police of the Czech Republic and other law enforcement agencies to the necessary extent and within the boundaries of law.

Source of the personal data:
Directly from you and from the vehicle, via which you use the Mobile Online Services ŠKODA Connect and which thus communicates with ŠKODA AUTO data servers.

Transfers of personal data to third countries or supranational organisations:
As part of the above-mentioned processing, your personal data will not be transferred to any third country or multinational company.

Automated decision-making based on the personal data:
During this personal data processing, automated decision-making based on the personal data does not occur.

Other information:
Personal data may be archived in the public interest and used for scientific, historical or statistical research purposes. In well-founded cases the personal data can also be the subject of the processing for the purposes of legal matters resolution, including the performance of obligations towards the public administration bodies and monitoring and ongoing evaluation of legal risks.

REALISATION OF EMERGENCY CALL

Purpose of the processing:
Realisation of Emergency Call

Description of the processing:
In the case of incident or any other event potentially threatening your life or health, your personal data will automatically be provided to the Emergency Call service provider and line 112. If the vehicle is involved in a traffic accident, an automatic emergency call is made via the “Emergency Call” service to the “Call Centre”. The vehicle at the same time, via the sensors in the airbag and safety seat belts tensioners, detects whether an accident has occurred and in this case sends the current position of the vehicle, direction of travel, severity of the accident and number of persons in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Via the voice connection, the operator of the Call Centre shall take care of you pending the arrival of the rescue service. Via the SOS module button in the ceiling of the vehicle, you can manually report an emergency at any time or request assistance for other traffic participants in an emergency. If the vehicle has this equipment, this service is available to you even when a valid ŠKODA Connect services Contract has not been concluded. The list of supported languages and countries for the Emergency Call service is available on the configurator and ŠKODA Connect Portal. If desired, you can deactivate the service with your ŠKODA AUTO service partner; for more detailed information, please refer to the operating manual of the vehicle.

Authorisation for the processing:
The processing is necessary to protect your vital interest, especially your health.

Categories of the personal data we process:
Localisation data and technical data on the product.

Processing and archiving period:
6 months after termination of the service.

What are your rights?

As a part of the personal data processing, you have the following rights:

Access to personal data processed.

Revocation of the consent to the personal data processing.

Correction of incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete personal data.

Erasure of personal data in the case of purpose legal basis termination or in the case of unlawful processing.

Restriction of the data processing.

Extract of your personal data in a machine-readable format for yourself or another controller.

Object to the data processing, if you believe that the processing of personal data is unlawful.

Not to be the subject of automated decision-making.

How can you exercise your rights?

In connection with the exercise of your rights, ŠKODA AUTO may charge a reasonable fee taking into account the administrative costs for the processing when requests from a data subject are apparently unfounded or excessive.
